of the subject depicted in the print
(from the original source):

With the exception of its southern side, the lake is surrounded by a chain of hills, which are nearly covered with shrubs and underwood, and its picturesque effect is heightened by ruins of Roman baths.—Those seen in the left of the view have been erroneously supposed to be the remains of a temple dedicated to Apollo, but their structure seems to favour the more modern opinion of their having been built for baths.  The height, on the left of this view, is a part of the Monte Nuovo, a mountain which, during the great earthquake in 1538, arose in one night from the surrounding plain, andforiris an astonishing proof of the wonderful power of volcanic fires.—That on the right is the Monte Crillo, in the side of which, and nearly overshadowed by luxuriant foliage, is the sombre entrance to the gloomy cave of the Cumean Sibyl.
